Serious shopping

After all, it is not the first time that we are selecting materials  for the house. Many months ago we specified what we wanted. Only later did we find out that this had only been used to establish prices for the budget.  It was a bit frustrating because we had spent a lot of time and energy selecting everything for our future home and now many of these items are no longer available.
So here we are – shopping again; only this time it is for real.
For Eveline colours are tremendously important and she wants to get it just right.  She wanted to make sure that the colours could be selected in advance and not be mixed on site. Therefore we had kept to the colours listed on the charts of various brands when choosing the colour of the paints.

The last colour we needed to choose was brown which will be used for any wood or woodlook alike . We quickly found a good colour and now needed the same colour for paint that could be applied to metal.

„Oh“, saiys the young salesman „that’s no problem at all. We’ll just mix it for you. “Eveline is getting excited: „, Absolutely not; we do not want any colours to be mixed here. “The salesman looks at her quite surprised: „But we mix all the colours here.“ „What, that is impossible, we have selected all the colours from the charts.“ „Exactly“, he says with a friendly smile „that is our starting point and from that information we mix all the colours right here in the shop.“ Eveline is ready to faint. Khun Sue, the assistant of the architect is watching worriedly. She knows how important colours were for her. Would Eveline freak out now? Khun Sue’s eyes widen and she looks rather pale.
In the meantime Heinz spots the mixing machines. They look a lot like washing machines; computer controlled and lined up in a nice row, all different brands. Eveline asks how accurate this mixing process would be. Proudly the salesman answers: „90 – 95 %“. !!!!!

Humour gets the better of her and Eveline bursts out laughing „well then, that’s fine“. The Thais don’t quite understand why the foreign woman is suddenly so happy but they are visibly relieved that an obviously alarming situation is diffused.
Just like many times before, we decide spontaneously to go with the local flow. And if this means to have our paint colours mixed in a ‘washing machine’ in the shop, so be it. We’ll surely manage to get our rooms in acceptable colours in the end.
After an exhausting shopping spree we can report the additional purchase of sanitary ware, water tank, and most importantly decorative bricks for the walls in the resort showers.
These bricks are produced locally again. We cannot only choose the colour but also have a look at the production.

The suggested rain gutters don’t really appeal to us. We have to keep searching.

Plastering

Plasterers are back on site and we are delighted to report that they are working with much care.

a peaceful site

Bamboo scaffolding

In Thailand bamboo has many uses, one of them is scaffolding. This material is very durable, flexible and can be used numerous times.

scaffolding is set up on site

but there are much bigger sites around

Repair work

First of all mistakes must be rectified.
Floor tiles on the guest bungalow terrace must be removed because the slope went towards the bedroom.

The walls are plastered quite badly. Therefore the workers apply a latex paint and work on it with sand paper to make sure it will look alright.

The arch must be replaced.

Parts of the walls are taken down again.
